1. Understanding & Respect

The Understanding Israel Foundation is built upon understanding: allowing Trinidad & Tobago to understand what Israel is and what Israel represents for the Jewish people, Israel as it exists from a religious and spiritual perspective, as well as understanding what opportunities exist for Trinidadians in Israel. The idea of understanding is rooted in Proverbs 4:7: “The beginning of wisdom [is to] acquire wisdom, and with all your possession acquire understanding.” The value of respect goes hand-in-hand with the value of understanding, and the opportunities for understanding will be done with respect that dissenting ideas, views, and perceptions may exist.

 

2. “If you will it, it is no dream.”

This quote from the father of modern Zionism, Theodor Herzl, is adopted as the Understanding Israel Foundation's perspective on its mission. As we work toward the lofty goal of bringing Trinidad & Tobago and Israel closer, we know we have a long road and steep hill to climb, but we center ourselves with determined optimism that we will accomplish our mission, steadfast belief in the dream of stronger relations, and unwavering commitment and support for Israel.

 

3. Education & Outreach

To achieve all the objectives of the Understanding Israel Foundation, education about Israel and outreach for Israel will be an on-going mission of the UIF.

 

4. Advocacy & Community-building

​

Advocacy for Israel and for a stronger relationship between Trinidad & Tobago remains the main objective of the Understanding Israel Foundation. Alongside this is the value of developing pro-Israel identities within the Trinidadian population (both those who are already pro-Israel and those who are either neutral or anti-Israel). In fostering a community spirit of pro-Israel identities, Understanding Israel Foundation will be able to instill a commonality between Members and thus be able to advocate strongly as individuals and as a community voting bloc.
